Are you interested in Astronomy and the planets?
Are you in primary school in Years 4, 5 or 6?
The Astronomy Club is a 10 week course with sessions every Tuesday evening from 6.00pm to 7.30pm throughout the winter term (January 2011 – March 2011).
You will be able to use telescopes and discover the science behind the planets and stars. We will cover how telescopes work and use them to see the planets. In our sessions we will use a six inch reflector telescope (weather permitting) to look at objects within our solar system including the Moon (looking at craters and other features), Saturn, Venus and its 4 largest moons. We will also learn to identify the constellations and the interesting objects within them and cover the science behind the formation of the planets, stars and black holes. We will learn about NASA's missions to the Moon and Mars and how optical and radio astronomy is carried out across the world.
The Astronomy Club will begin again soon. It will take place in Southborough or Bidborough depending on the weather conditions and visibility.
Dr Gareth Francis is a local physicist that loves to enthuse children about science. He has been CRB checked recently and is insured to run science activities.
Please contact Gareth Francis for booking details. Cost £100 per person per term.
